Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many artists have found themselves without
work or income. Exhibitions and sales have disappeared, teaching and
workshops have been cancelled.
In an attempt to help alleviate some of the stress that artists are
facing, @matthewburrowsstudio has instigated the
ARTIST SUPPORT PLEDGE #artistsupportpledge on Instagram.
The concept is a simple one. Artists taking part post images of their
work that they are willing to sell for no more than £200 each. Every
time they reach £1000 of sales they pledge to buy another artist's
work for £200. This creates a dynamic culture and market, where all
can contribute, whatever their level of success. This is a culture dependent
on the honesty and generosity of our artistic communities at every level.
For the second UK lockdown beginning on November 5th, I will be selling a few paintings in support of #artistsupportpledge. I will be adding some more over the coming weeks as I continue to paint during the lockdown.
I pledge that when I reach £1000 in sales, I will purchase a work by another artist for £200.
